5 Things I Learned About Being A Christian

When I first started out on my newfound walk with Christ, for sure I thought that the journey would be easy-peasy…sunshine and butterflies!! Don’t get me wrong. Having a sense of security, knowing that you have salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ, does make life easier but lets not forget, we are still beings going through a very real life experience. That means we will face DAILY challenges (work, peer pressure, financial issues, etc) and facing and overcoming them is enough added pressure in itself.

I would like to share 5 things that I have learned thus far in MY journey and I hope by sharing them, you can maneuver through your own personal journey effortlessly.

Disclaimer: These are MY thoughts and experiences on MY journey and to be taken as nothing more than advice to you and yours. 🙂

(1) Rome Wasn’t Built in A Day

After I gave my life to Christ, I went into full blown Super Christian mode! I told myself that I would be the best Christian anyone ever saw. I would read my bible 3 times a day. I prayed in the morning, noon and night and even prayed while falling asleep. I would beat myself up if I was a minute late for Sunday School. Although God wants us to be the best we can be, I don’t think he meant for us to kill ourselves trying nor condemn ourselves for not being perfect. Perfection will never be attained in this human vessel and I had to realize that for myself.

(2) Be Honest with Yourself

Once I came to the realization that I couldn’t be this Super Perfect Super Christian, I began to calm down and take one day at a time. The reason why being honest with yourself is so critical is because it allows you to not have unrealistic expectations. We know that achieving perfection is nearly impossible, so why place that expectation on yourself? In no way am I saying settle for lackluster performance but don’t condemn yourself if you miss a day of reading your bible. I am speaking from experience. I would literally feel worthless if I missed bible study or if i didn’t pray morning, noon and night. These things are important but beating yourself up mentally and emotionally isn’t Gods way. God knows that we could never achieve perfection, which is why he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for us.

(3) Change Is Necessary

We know that there is nothing that can separate us from Gods love; however, its also important to know that we cannot live our same old lives and expect to bear the fruit of a child of God. Being baptized and asking God for forgiveness are 2 great essential steps on your walk with Christ but you also have to make a physical change. Changing your way of thinking. Changing your social circles. Changing your habits. Change is necessary because without it, you will never grow.

Here’s a point for you. When I became a police officer, I began to change my group of friends. This was necessary because the group I used to hang out with didn’t align with the values and morals that came with being a police officer. Its the same principle with your journey. When you become a new person in Christ, you cant continue to hang around those who are not walking the same road as you. If two people are together but have different paths in their viewpoint, you’re bound to stray away from each other OR you make yourself vulnerable to the chance of being pulled in their direction. You make the choice. Clean house or be led astray.

(4) Be Intentional

Are you on this journey because of fear or are you on this journey because you want to be intentional about your love and gratitude to God? I remember a time when I used to attend church because I was trying to make my aunt happy. Then I remember a time when I did it because…everyone else was doing it. When I made the conscious decision to go because I wanted to go, I felt so light. So weightless. I was no longer under the pressure of making someone else happy. Isn’t that beautiful!? Being intentional about your journey is essential because you need to know who you’re doing this for. This is between you and God and you should only be doing this to build your relationship with Him. Lately it seems like being a Christian is the latest trend. Its the cool thing to do right now. Being a Christian is cool but its more than a fad. Its a way of life. This is your soul that we’re talking about people!! God was intentional when he sent his son to die for our sins. Can’t we be intentional about our love and devotion to him?

(5) Mind Your Business

Last but not least, we have come to one of the most important steps. Minding your business. Staying focused on yourself and your journey. I learned how important this step was after a head-on experience that I had.

I would see how people would claim to be Christian but they continued to live like everyone else with no thoughts of changing. This would frustrate me to the point where I began questioning myself. This is why you have to focus on yourself and mind your own business. Focusing on others will have you lost and confused about your own journey.

Some people believe that going to church every Sunday will suffice for them. Others believe that they don’t need to change their ways at all and that’s the thing. Everyone has their own thoughts and beliefs and this is exactly why you have to focus on yourself. This journey is hard enough dealing with your own thoughts, trials and desires. Don’t add more unnecessary strife by dabbling in others life.

In Conclusion

We have covered a lot of ground and I hope it wasn’t too much to take in. This journey can become overwhelming at times but it can also be rewarding and a true eye opener to how much God really loves us. Just remember to continue to spread Gods love and remember his word.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him. Romans 15:13

Farewell August, Hello September!

August has come to an end and September is quickly approaching!! It is insane how quickly time is flying. It makes you think about how short life really is. With that in mind, stop putting off those plans, dreams and ideas and do them NOW!! There’s no better time than right now! Go for it! I believe in you.. 🙂

August Highlights

August was such a great month! Full of celebration and new beginnings. I celebrated my 30th birthday and had an amazing time with a group of friends.

We had dinner at Eli’s Table located on Meeting Street. This was my first time eating there and I was extremely satisfied. The customer service was AMAZING!! I was given a complimentary glass of champagne as the birthday girl and our server was gracious enough to play cameraman for us.

To some it may have seemed like a pretty lame way to celebrate 30 years, but it was perfect for me. I wasn’t interested in doing anything too crazy.

A New Path

I started a new position at work which was pretty exciting. For the entirety of my career I spent my time on Patrol and for the first time I am in a new enviroment entirely; the SCHOOLS!! We are about 3 weeks in and I am starting to see how my purpose can be fulfilled here. Our children spend the majority of their day in school. For some children, school is the only positive atmosphere in their life. With that being said, it is very important for teachers, and myself, to make a positive impact in their lives.

Being an SRO, you have choices. You can chose to sit in your office all day and do nothing, or you can choose to go out and interact with the students and staff. Get to know your school. Attend meetings. Open the doors for the car riders. I love talking to the students. I love walking down the hallways and giving high fives as the kids walk from class to class. Its those little gestures that makes huge impacts.

Another thing I learned after Week 1 of being in the schools. Vitamin C!!!!! I am currently getting over a cold after spending time in one of my favorite 5th grade classes. Thank goodness it wasn’t Strep!

Awaiting Fall

I must admit, I am happy to see Summer come to a close. I am ready for the beautiful Fall decor, those beautiful oranges and greens and those cozy comfy over-sized sweaters!! Are you ready for Fall?

Carnival Caribbean Cruise Try-on Haul

Did anyone order a Caribbean getaway? I did!! We are 4 months away from spending a week in Puerto Rico and touring 5 different islands. I have always heard and seen my friends, co-workers, and family going on cruises and talking about how great they are but for some reason I’ve always put it off. Always putting it off because something else needed to be done or taken care of. Well not this year baby!!! I called up my aunt, who is a Travel Agent, and told her that I wanted to book a cruise for Caden and I . Shortly after, she called me back to let me know that she found the perfect cruise that I couldn’t refuse. An absolute “bang for your buck” type situation. A 7 day cruise including visiting 5 different islands. The islands include:

  • St. Thomas
  • St. Marteen
  • St. Kitts
  • St. Lucia
  • Barbados

I don’t know about you, but I totally had to jump on that offer. So once we got the details of the cruise and the flights squared away, there was still one lingering problem. What am I going to wear!!???? I’ve never been on a cruise before so I am oblivious to the DO’s and DONT’s of cruise ship attire. After consulting with my Googles, I decided to start pulling some pieces together. I ran down to my nearest H&M and put a few pieces together for consideration.

Since were going to the Caribbean, I wanted to incorporate fun colors and tropical vibes. Clothing that will be comfortable but cute. While searching the racks at H&M, I came across some very cute pieces that would be great for touring the islands.

This outfit had my name written all over it! I loved fit of the crop top and i loved how comfortable the shorts were. I tried on a size 7 (I’m normally size 5) for a cute baggy look. The fit was so nice!

Matching sets are totally in right now so when i saw this i fell in love. The top was a silk like material (very comfy) and the bottoms were very nice as well. I added a little twist to the top by tying it into a cute little knot.

Bikinis & Martinis

OK!! There is absolutely no way one can go to Barbados, or any island for that matter, and not slay a swimsuit. Rather you’re going to be sunbathing or enjoying the beautiful waves, you have to be flawless!! Period!!

Red is always a good color to add to your vacation wardrobe! This spicy 1-piece will certainly turn up the heat !!

Cheetah print will always be a statement piece. You can pair either of these with a cute cover up and a nice hat or you can turn the 1-piece into a whole outfit paired with shorts, sandals and shades!

Are you team 1-piece or are you more of a 2-piece type of girl? Both styles has a place in my suitcase! I hope you enjoyed this try-on haul! Check out H&M for yourselves and see if they have anything that you like. Maybe you’ll see one of the pieces from this try-on! Happy Shopping:) xoxo

A Necessary Change

Hey you guys!! How are things going with you? I hope extremely well. Life has recently taken a couple bumps and turns but all in a good direction. Now only did I just turn 30 years old, but I also made a big change in my career. For the past 6 1/2 years, I spent my time on Patrol. 3 1/2 years on Patrol and 3 years as an NRO which is under the Patrol umbrella. I loved my time in both positions because in the city where I work, there is ALWAYS something going on. There was tons of fun times and lots of community relationships formed, however, I was eventually left feeling like I wanted to do more.

So, I heard that there was an opening for the position as an SRO (School Resource Officer) and I decided to put it for it. A lot of times when you’re working in the patrol atmosphere, yes, you do get to meet different people and there’s the possibility of building relationships but with high call volumes and staffing issues, its hard to do those things where you get to see growth and development. As an SRO, you get to be in those schools and basically go day to day with those kids and actually see them grow and blossom into productive adults. That is what I want to be apart of. I also think that helping children form a more positive view towards police is extremely important. Police officers are there to protect and serve the communities and also be a role model to those who have no positive role models in their lives.

I take my duties as a police officer very seriously because I believe that this has been my personal mission given to me by God. I’ve made some GREAT relationships over the years and there is nothing better than someone coming up to you in the grocery store telling you how you changed their life. Its awesome! This job can be very rewarding and its such a great platform to make the most out of your career.

I am so excited about this new path in my career and I cant wait to meet the students and staff. This is going to be a great school year! I can feel it already! Be safe guys and God Bless. xoxo

Hello 30!!!!!!

Wow!!! I have officially entered the Dirty 30s! LOL I cant believe I’m 30 years old!! Wow! this is truly a blessing! You may be asking “How does it feel?” I can say it feels pretty good. I feel as though I have a better sense of self. But that definitely didn’t happen overnight. I feel like I have been supercharged with an ambition to go for everything within my reach and grasp for those things that are out of my comfort zone.

I recently transferred to a new position at work and I’m so exciting about that. I was nervous about making this move for years because I had gotten so comfortable in the position that I was in, but I realized to elevate you have to move out of your comfort zone. Sometimes being uncomfortable is good because it forces you to get up, get out and move to something bigger and better.

So yea guys, I didn’t prepare a long drawn out message or anything. I’m working on some cool content to bring forth and I hope you all enjoy it. I’m going to go and enjoy my birthday!! xoxo

Happy August!!! Issa Celebration!!!

OMGoodness Guys!!! August is here!! This year is zooming by so fast that I didn’t realize my birthday was approaching. We are 9 days away from me turning the big 30!!! WOW! what a great milestone. As time grows closer, I began to sit and realize the real true meaning of life. I remember a time where I felt lost and confused as to what my purpose in life was. As I’ve gotten older, its becoming more clear to me what the meaning of life is; to me of course.

When you are a child, life is pretty simple. You go to school, come home and play, eat and sleep. The most carefree times of your life. Then you get older and school becomes more rigorous and now you add in the pressures of fitting in as well as your plans for the future. Then you’re off to college and thrusted into the work force. Before you know it, your life has turned into school, work, study, (you might remember to eat) and the possibility of sleep. You never got to sit and find out what the meaning of life was.

The meaning of life can obviously be whatever you choose to make it. For me, the meaning of life is love. Spreading love and happiness. In my line of work, I’ve come across so many people who have given up. They have given up on life. They feel as though love and happiness has passed them by with no intention of returning. That look of despair on someones face really gets to me. My goal has been to try to offer a kind word or even a pat on the back. I’ve found that those little gestures can make someone feel human again. Helping others when they fall is another passion of mine. In this rat race of life, its easy to be pulled into the thought process that you have to kick as many people down for you to get ahead. I could never fall into that path because I know who holds my destiny. I know that whats for me will be mine and by me knowing that, it does me no good to kick someone when they’re down. Let us aspire to be that person that uplifts instead of tear down. The world has enough people “gettin a bag”, or backstabbing one another to get ahead. Lets be different and pick each other up. I promise you, whats for you will be yours.

It seems as though when you get older, life becomes more simple. You no longer care about the small things. I love the simplicity of this new view. Thank the Lord for bringing me this far and for the hills and valleys that I’ve been through. 9 more days!!! Woot Woot!!

Thank you guys for reading. Stop by IG page and tell me Happy Birthday! xoxo

They have introduced a line of fun colorful sweaters that are so comfortably made and very lightweight. So, without further ado, why don’t we jump right in!

Remember years ago when you were in elementary school, and your parents made you wear those ugly Corduroy pants…lol or was it just me!? Well they’ve made a comeback. These cute skirts are all the rave and perfect for the Fall. Can be paired with a cute top and cardigan or a cute sweater and your favorite pair of shoes.

Just A Little Chit Chat

Hey there lovely!!! How is your week going so far? I hope its going extremely well. You know, sometimes I sit back and take in everything around me and realize how extremely blessed I am. Although I am not where I want to be, I thank the Lord daily that I am not where I used to be. Do you ever just stop and say “Thank You Lord” ? In the grand scheme of things, we are really blessed. Anytime you encounter a bad day or when you feel down in the dumps, look around you and all that you have and know that you are blessed.

Lately, I feel like my ambition levels have been in complete overdrive! Its like sometimes i feel as though I can literally do anything; like the sky is the limit. As I look back at past accomplishments such as graduating the police academy and sustaining a career for 6+ years, starting my own business (although I didn’t stick to it), tapping into public speaking and several other goals that I’ve met, I realized that I fell in love with the challenges. Its an awesome feeling when you reach for a goal and you nail it!! I hate that all too often I see people, especially in my line of work, who have given up on their goals and dreams. I understand that life throws us curve balls but does that mean we bend over and die right then and there? NO!!! We cannot wallow in self pity and doubt and quit! We owe ourselves more than that. We owe it to our children, our families and to God to get up, dust ourselves off and get back in the fight.

One thing that really bugs me is when we find ourselves overcoming obstacles and adversities, there’s always someone who coin you as the person who thinks they’re better. Since when does self-improvement put you above others? It doesn’t. Do not feel guilty for pulling yourself out of a pit and striving for better. Gods plan is for everyone to be victorious and happy for one another..but of course in this lifetime….that’s not realistic. Regardless of the negative energy, know that the Lord brought you this far for a good reason and be sure to use every day to encourage someone else. Continue to pick one another up and help each other run the race. Whats for you will be for you and whats for them will be for them. Aspire to Inspire!

Right now I am getting ready to make a transition and I am looking forward to seeing where God is going to take me. Getting out of your comfort zone can be nerve wrecking but its so necessary for growth. Don’t worry, I’ll be taking you guys along for the ride. Thank you for reading and God Bless. xoxo

The Weekend Has Come to An End

Happy Sunday guys!! How was your weekend? Caden and I didn’t do anything spectacular but we made the most of what we did. On Friday, after getting home from work and picking Caden up from Summer Camp, we came home where I laid down to take a nap. I was supposed to go to a program at a local church, but once I laid down, my body was like “you’re not going anywhere” lol. Sometimes we have all of these ideas in our minds of what we’re going to do and our bodies simply have other plans. Our bodies has a way of telling us when its time to lay down and sleep.

On Saturday, we hung out at Top Dawg Tavern where they had Family Day. They had all types of things for the children to enjoy which was awesome. Caden was able to check out face painting, balloon animals/art, Kona Ice, and even the local animal shelter brought some cute puppies out for the kids to see. The restaurant also had a special going on for kids to choose from 5 different kids meals for only $4.95. It was a great way to get Caden out of the house for a little while.

We then stopped by Duck Doughnuts for a sweet treat! Caden got the Cookies and Cream Doughnut Sundae and I got the Salted Caramel. It was so delish!

After our little outing, we came home to nap before heading in to celebrate Apricot Lanes 4th Birthday!!! The theme for the party was “70s, 80s,& 90s Decades”. We all dressed up in our grooviest attire and welcomed customers into the store as they shopped. The sale was 50% off from 4-6. Pretty sweet huh!?

On Sunday, we attended church services and fellowshipped with family afterwards. I had planned to attend an event at 4pm, however, I began to feel very fatigued. I came home, got Caden settled and called it a day. Even though this weekend was very basic, we still got to do some things and most importantly, we had FUN! Sometimes simple is better. I hope you all had a great and safe weekend. Until next time, be safe and God Bless! xoxo
