Hello 30!!!!!!

Wow!!! I have officially entered the Dirty 30s! LOL I cant believe I’m 30 years old!! Wow! this is truly a blessing! You may be asking “How does it feel?” I can say it feels pretty good. I feel as though I have a better sense of self. But that definitely didn’t happen overnight. I feel like I have been supercharged with an ambition to go for everything within my reach and grasp for those things that are out of my comfort zone.

I recently transferred to a new position at work and I’m so exciting about that. I was nervous about making this move for years because I had gotten so comfortable in the position that I was in, but I realized to elevate you have to move out of your comfort zone. Sometimes being uncomfortable is good because it forces you to get up, get out and move to something bigger and better.

So yea guys, I didn’t prepare a long drawn out message or anything. I’m working on some cool content to bring forth and I hope you all enjoy it. I’m going to go and enjoy my birthday!! xoxo

Happy August!!! Issa Celebration!!!

OMGoodness Guys!!! August is here!! This year is zooming by so fast that I didn’t realize my birthday was approaching. We are 9 days away from me turning the big 30!!! WOW! what a great milestone. As time grows closer, I began to sit and realize the real true meaning of life. I remember a time where I felt lost and confused as to what my purpose in life was. As I’ve gotten older, its becoming more clear to me what the meaning of life is; to me of course.

When you are a child, life is pretty simple. You go to school, come home and play, eat and sleep. The most carefree times of your life. Then you get older and school becomes more rigorous and now you add in the pressures of fitting in as well as your plans for the future. Then you’re off to college and thrusted into the work force. Before you know it, your life has turned into school, work, study, (you might remember to eat) and the possibility of sleep. You never got to sit and find out what the meaning of life was.

The meaning of life can obviously be whatever you choose to make it. For me, the meaning of life is love. Spreading love and happiness. In my line of work, I’ve come across so many people who have given up. They have given up on life. They feel as though love and happiness has passed them by with no intention of returning. That look of despair on someones face really gets to me. My goal has been to try to offer a kind word or even a pat on the back. I’ve found that those little gestures can make someone feel human again. Helping others when they fall is another passion of mine. In this rat race of life, its easy to be pulled into the thought process that you have to kick as many people down for you to get ahead. I could never fall into that path because I know who holds my destiny. I know that whats for me will be mine and by me knowing that, it does me no good to kick someone when they’re down. Let us aspire to be that person that uplifts instead of tear down. The world has enough people “gettin a bag”, or backstabbing one another to get ahead. Lets be different and pick each other up. I promise you, whats for you will be yours.

It seems as though when you get older, life becomes more simple. You no longer care about the small things. I love the simplicity of this new view. Thank the Lord for bringing me this far and for the hills and valleys that I’ve been through. 9 more days!!! Woot Woot!!

Thank you guys for reading. Stop by IG page and tell me Happy Birthday! xoxo

Back To School Try On Haul

Its back to school time you guys!! Apricot Lane Charleston has stocked their shelves with amazingly cute pieces that’ll have you ready for school and ready for the fall. They have introduced a line of fun colorful sweaters that are so comfortably made and very lightweight. So, without further ado, why don’t we jump right in!

Yellow is by far one of my favorite colors. These pieces were very comfortable on the skin and not itchy at all like most sweaters tend to be. Different shades of yellow are perfect for summer as well as fall. These sweaters can be paired with your favorite shorts for the Summer OR your favorite pair of Denim and boots for the Fall.

Remember years ago when you were in elementary school, and your parents made you wear those ugly Corduroy pants…lol or was it just me!? Well they’ve made a comeback. These cute skirts are all the rave and perfect for the Fall. Can be paired with a cute top and cardigan or a cute sweater and your favorite pair of shoes.

Flare, flare , flare!!! Flare jeans have definetely made a comeback in today’s fashion scene. I have fallen in love with flare jeans and I had to add a few pairs to my own wardrobe. It totally take your outfit to another level. Lets bring back the 70s with style!

Don’t start the school year without checking out Apricot Lane Charleston. They will also be having a fashion show Tax Free Weekend. Come check the store out August 3rd! Thank you for checking out my try on haul. Be Blessed. xoxo

Just A Little Chit Chat

Hey there lovely!!! How is your week going so far? I hope its going extremely well. You know, sometimes I sit back and take in everything around me and realize how extremely blessed I am. Although I am not where I want to be, I thank the Lord daily that I am not where I used to be. Do you ever just stop and say “Thank You Lord” ? In the grand scheme of things, we are really blessed. Anytime you encounter a bad day or when you feel down in the dumps, look around you and all that you have and know that you are blessed.

Lately, I feel like my ambition levels have been in complete overdrive! Its like sometimes i feel as though I can literally do anything; like the sky is the limit. As I look back at past accomplishments such as graduating the police academy and sustaining a career for 6+ years, starting my own business (although I didn’t stick to it), tapping into public speaking and several other goals that I’ve met, I realized that I fell in love with the challenges. Its an awesome feeling when you reach for a goal and you nail it!! I hate that all too often I see people, especially in my line of work, who have given up on their goals and dreams. I understand that life throws us curve balls but does that mean we bend over and die right then and there? NO!!! We cannot wallow in self pity and doubt and quit! We owe ourselves more than that. We owe it to our children, our families and to God to get up, dust ourselves off and get back in the fight.

One thing that really bugs me is when we find ourselves overcoming obstacles and adversities, there’s always someone who coin you as the person who thinks they’re better. Since when does self-improvement put you above others? It doesn’t. Do not feel guilty for pulling yourself out of a pit and striving for better. Gods plan is for everyone to be victorious and happy for one another..but of course in this lifetime….that’s not realistic. Regardless of the negative energy, know that the Lord brought you this far for a good reason and be sure to use every day to encourage someone else. Continue to pick one another up and help each other run the race. Whats for you will be for you and whats for them will be for them. Aspire to Inspire!

Right now I am getting ready to make a transition and I am looking forward to seeing where God is going to take me. Getting out of your comfort zone can be nerve wrecking but its so necessary for growth. Don’t worry, I’ll be taking you guys along for the ride. Thank you for reading and God Bless. xoxo

The Weekend Has Come to An End

Happy Sunday guys!! How was your weekend? Caden and I didn’t do anything spectacular but we made the most of what we did. On Friday, after getting home from work and picking Caden up from Summer Camp, we came home where I laid down to take a nap. I was supposed to go to a program at a local church, but once I laid down, my body was like “you’re not going anywhere” lol. Sometimes we have all of these ideas in our minds of what we’re going to do and our bodies simply have other plans. Our bodies has a way of telling us when its time to lay down and sleep.

On Saturday, we hung out at Top Dawg Tavern where they had Family Day. They had all types of things for the children to enjoy which was awesome. Caden was able to check out face painting, balloon animals/art, Kona Ice, and even the local animal shelter brought some cute puppies out for the kids to see. The restaurant also had a special going on for kids to choose from 5 different kids meals for only $4.95. It was a great way to get Caden out of the house for a little while.

We then stopped by Duck Doughnuts for a sweet treat! Caden got the Cookies and Cream Doughnut Sundae and I got the Salted Caramel. It was so delish!

After our little outing, we came home to nap before heading in to celebrate Apricot Lanes 4th Birthday!!! The theme for the party was “70s, 80s,& 90s Decades”. We all dressed up in our grooviest attire and welcomed customers into the store as they shopped. The sale was 50% off from 4-6. Pretty sweet huh!?

On Sunday, we attended church services and fellowshipped with family afterwards. I had planned to attend an event at 4pm, however, I began to feel very fatigued. I came home, got Caden settled and called it a day. Even though this weekend was very basic, we still got to do some things and most importantly, we had FUN! Sometimes simple is better. I hope you all had a great and safe weekend. Until next time, be safe and God Bless! xoxo

My Spa Experience

Bonjour everyone!! I hope you are reading this in great spirits. We are approaching the end of a fabulous week and I couldn’t let the week come to a close without a little ME time.

As productive members of society, we spend so much time working. Work, work, work, work!!! And when we’re done working, its time to cook dinner and get the kids to bed! When do we take time out, drop everything and pamper ourselves? Lately, the best way I treat myself is with monthly facials. Total game changer!! When it comes to skincare, I am always trying to be one step ahead. Your skin is everything! Its sort of like a mirror that tells it all. What you put into your body shows through your skin. So, one can imagine how excited I was to get my first facial.

After a recommendation from a friend and a few Google searches, I came across Totality Medispa; located on Daniel Island. What drew me into this place was (1) The awesome reviews that I saw online and (2) how great the person who recommended them skin looked! Her skin was so smooth and glowy, I just wanted the results she had.

So, I booked an appointment and went in. O-M-G! The decor in this place was so chic and welcoming. When I walked through the door I knew that I was in the right place. The booking process was super easy and the staff was friendly. I worked with Brittany and she was soooo sweet and VERY knowledgeable. Not only was she able to assess my skin and suggest products for my skincare needs, she also recommended other services that would suit my skin concerns as well.

This past visit, I was introduced to the Waterfacial. This service is a 3-step process that consists of Cleansing, Exfoliating and Infusing. This service is great for those suffering with acne, hyperpigmentation and even wrinkles. Now that you have an idea of what this service is, lets jump into the process! πŸ™‚

The BEFORE

So my main skin concern is that I have hyperpigmentation on the left side of my face. I will admit, whenever I get a pimple, YES, I have to squeeze it!! That is the one thing you never want to do because then you’re left with scarring that then turns into dark spots (from sun exposure) and voila…now you’ve got a bigger problem on your hands.

So, we began the process by cleansing the skin. Quite obviously, cleansing the skin before going into a routine is essential because you want to remove any lingering oils or makeup. After Brittany cleansed my face, she applied a warm towel to open the pores and wipe the remaining product away from the skin.

After cleansing my skin, we moved on to the next step. During this step, Brittany went over my face with a Hydradermabrasion device. As she went over each section of my face, she began to decongest my skin by using a mild salicylic & glycolic peel. This was pretty cool and felt really tingly as she was doing it.

Step 3 was pretty cool and kinda gross. EXTRACTIONS!!! This process can be done a few ways. Either by hand or by using an extraction tool. Brittany used her hands and that was much better for me personally. During this process, she used her fingers to push on areas of my nose and began to push the gunk out. You could see the white beads coming out of my pores. GROSS….but cool.

After the extraction process, she used the same tool to push antioxidants into my skin. After the cleansing and exfoliating process, your skin can get dried out so they push those healthy antioxidants back into the skin for ultimate hydration.

After completing the hydrating process, she applies a serum to your face to protect and seal the skin. But wait…you’re not done yet. Brittany was so gracious to show me all of the crap that was sucked out my skin. Are you ready!?

This bottle was totally empty when we started. Pretty cool huh!?

After my Waterfacial Service, I was left with glowing hydrated skin. Although some have reported to seeing results after one visit, it is recommended to get monthly services. This is something that I personally will continue to incorporate in my skincare regimen and I will most definitely keep you guys updated on my progress.

These are the products currently used in my skincare routine. The Obagi line can be purchased at Totality Medispa

Au Revoir

I truly hope you enjoyed reading about my spa experience. If you’re ever in the Daniel Island area, check out Totality Medispa and book your appointment for your next pamper session. See you later and God Bless. xoxo

My Natural Hair J0urney

Hey guys!!!So, I recently posted a picture of a style that I tried on my natural hair and the response was overwhelmingly awesome!! It sparked an idea in my mind that it would probably be a good idea to introduce you all to my hair journey, products, my routine, and styles that I have used thus far. I hope that you find this information fun, informative and useful. Enjoy.

In the beginning

In March 2015, I began my natural hair journey. As a child, I had always had long thick hair that when washed, would poof out to what could be compared to a Jackson 5 afro. In middle school I got my first relaxer ever due to my mom not being able to handle my hair any longer. Now, being a teenager with freshly relaxed hair, you couldn’t tell me anything!! Lol, I was straightening my hair everyday, never deep conditioning it and I didn’t know that stretching relaxers was a thing. I vaguely remember wasting a relaxer out with Dawn dish soap once!! Yes, a total disaster!!

My hair was constantly breaking off and it seemed like it was stuck at shoulder length. It wasn’t healthy at all. Being young and ignorant to the health of my hair, I continued to straighten it everyday as it continued to fall out. As I got older and found YouTube, i began to learn about my hair in its natural state and how to care for it. That prompted my first big chop.

Big Chop #1 was unsuccessful because i was doing too much at one time. I was bleaching and coloring my hair as well as straightening it.

In 2016, I got a tapered cut which would allow the majority of my hair to grow back in a cute funky way. While on this new hair journey, i learned that more is less on your natural hair journey. Its very important to form a regimen and stick to it. Your hair, just like any growing thing, needs consistency.

The Basics

Putting a regimen together for your hair can be stressful if you don’t know what to look for. Below, we will go over a few tips that can get you started on a routine personalized for your hair.

  • Analyze your hair- You need to know what type of hair you have, what products is good for your hair and what your hair porosity levels are. Porosity is your hairs ability to absorb moisture through the strands.

  • What is your hair type- hair types range from bone straight to super kinky. Knowing your hair type will help when it comes to buying styling tools AND products. What works for 4c hair, may not work for someone with 3c-4a hair.

  • Cleanse- Having clean hair and a clean scalp is essential for hair growth. When it comes to cleansers, they’re many options on the market. I would probably rotate between a good cleansing shampoo and a moisturizing shampoo. They also make conditioners (cowash) that cleanse your hair.

  • Conditioner- Conditioners are great for natural hair because it makes detangling a breeze. A good detangling conditioner that wont break the bank is VO5 ($1 WOW) !!! It had great slip and is super cost effective.

  • Deep Conditioner- Ok guys!! This is where you can splurge!!! Your deep conditioner (IMO) is the most important product in a naturals hair routine. You should be deep conditioning a minimum of once a week. Deep conditioning allows moisture and nutrients to be pushed back into the hair. Applying heat will maximize the effects to your deep conditioner because the heat will open your hair shaft allowing a deeper penetration.

  • Leave In Conditioner- Unlike a regular conditioner that you rinse out, this product is one that will remain in the hair. This acts as the primer for your styler.

  • Oil/Butter- Using an oil or butter (depending on hair type) will help seal in everything you just applied. You may have heard the method LCO or LOC method. This is where you apply your liquid, oil and cream or vice versa. This method has become popular in the natural hair community due to its ability to seal in moisture.

  • Styler- Your style is only as good as your styler! Dependent on your hair type (see why its important!), picking a styler will determine how good your style comes out . For example, I have 4a hair type so I found that gels and jellies work better for my hair.

Versatility

Over the years I have developed a concrete routine for my hair and I can truly say my hair has flourished. Consistency is key! Our hair is very versatile and when you take good care of your hair, your options are limitless. Yes, natural hair can be straightened, however, keep in mind that heat can cause damage. Excessive heat can cause heat damage to your hair which results in stringy lifeless curls similar to Ramen noodles…not cute at all!! If you do decide to have your hair pressed make sure you are going to a professional. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure to use a good deep conditioner and a good heat protectant.

I Got Hang Time!!!

April 2019, I got my FIRST silk press!! I was in desperate need of a trim so I went for it. The stylist was very educated with heat styling natural hair so I knew I was in good hands. Because it was my first time, the ends of my hair went poofy literally the next day !!! Instead of applying more heat, I decided to wear my hair in buns and ponytails which were nice and full! It was great!!

Summer Isnt my Friend!

Living in the South, the humidity is noooo joke!! My hair could be fine one moment and the next… POOF…literally! Usually summer time consists of wash and gos or braids for me but this year I decided to try something new.

I was roaming the YouTube streets one day when I came across mini twists. I loved how easy and carefree they were but was skeptical about how much time it would take. One night I found a couple of movies on Netflix and went for it.

2 1/2 hours later I was done!! I loved it! With mini twists, you have so many options when it comes to styling. I am looking forward to incorporating this style into my hair journey.

In Closing

I hope you guys found this helpful and will be able to use these tips on your hair journey. Remember, all hair isn’t alike and its important to find products for YOUR hair. Also, building a routine that you wont consistently use will do you no good. Be consistent. Thank you for reading and Happy Hair Days!! xoxo

When You Cant Hear Gods Voice

Have you ever felt like life was getting so busy and the world around you was so loud that you literally felt like you could no longer hear Gods voice? Like you’ve totally been unplugged!?

As someone striving to gain a closer relationship with God, when I cant hear his voice, I go into panic mode!! If you find yourself feeling the same way, check out some of the methods I use when its time re-align myself.

  • Drop everything- Yes!! Drop the to-do list, drop the cell phone and turn the TV off.
  • Go to a quiet place- we have to allow our minds to get quiet so we can focus. Tuning out the world around and going to your quiet place is a MUST when you’re trying to hear His voice.
  • Grab your bible- I personally like to call my bible my road map because it literally directs me as I walk the Christian journey. Turn to your favorite scripture and allow it to resonate with you.
  • Grab your journal- Writing down your thoughts or how your favorite scripture made you feel allows you to think deeply about what you just took in.

Simple Is Key

Though few in number, sometimes all you need is a few simple steps to get back where you once were. While on this journey, there will be times when you may not feel his presence like you once did and I believe that’s ok. That is actually where your faith comes into play. You have to have faith and know that He is always there with us. God is always talking to us, we just have to take the headphones off. πŸ™‚

I hope that this was beneficial to you and I hope that you continue to incorporate these methods (tuned to your liking) in your walk with Christ. Happy Sunday and God Bless! xoxo

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” – Ephesians 3:20

Happy 4th of July!!!

How Will You be Spending the 4th?

Every year for the last 3 years, I’ve spent my 4th of July working 10+ hours at Riverfront Park. The celebration at Riverfront Park is always one of the BIGGEST events here in Charleston!! With an estimated attendance of 20,000-25,000 people, you can imagine the task of managing crowd control. Working for the best agency in the Lowcountry, everything has managed to run smoothly without a hitch.

So, if you’re looking for a family fun event in the Charleston area, check out Riverfront Park!! Be sure to stay for the firework show at the end. πŸ™‚ Be safe and God Bless! xoxo
